About
April 20, 2008 starts our big adventure. We are going to leave Holden Beach on Sunday, April 20, if either engine will start or if Sea Tow is available.
We are honored that our daughters are driving from Charlottee to see us off. I think that one of them justs wants to make sure that we are gone.
The preparations for this trip have been overwhelming. The actions required to get the boat ready are straight forward and easily understood - just do everything. Getting the house ready for us to be gone for more than a year is not that simple. There are a lot of things that need to be done that are not real obvious. The water system needs to be shutoff and all the lines drained. I have decided to let the yard return to it’s natural state. Too bad I won’t be here to watch the flowers as they shrivel up and die. I came up with a novel way to get all of my hurricane preparations completed; call the insurance agent and verify that the policy is in effect.
Cancel insurance on all vehicles and turn in the license plates.
Turn off all breakers in the switch box except leave power on the telephone answering machine.
Empty freezer and refrigerator. Leave door open and leave solution inside to combat mildew.
Remove all food from the house
Empty closets of any thing that is less than 2 sizes too large. Won’t fit when we get back.
